The first construction was built in 1347 and destroyed in 1537, while the building we admire today dates back to the late 17th century.
Besides the stone church there are portico and inner courtyards.
Entering in the monastery you have a feeling of ancient place
During the year it is the destination of numerous pilgrims.
Along the road that leads up the mountain, we can pass of very old villages.

The small monastery of Vlaherena is located to the south of the city and in the more southern part of the Kanoni peninsula.
The monastery is set on a so small island connected to the mainland only with a narrow wharf that seems to be in the middle of the sea.
This all-white architecture, which dates back to the 17th Century , stands out against the blue background of the sea and creates the perfect setting for a photograph.
Passing through an archway at the base of the bell tower you reach a small courtyard from which you enter in smaller churches all over the Corfu island.

This church is placed in the south of old town, exactly in Paleopoli area where there are many buildings of historical interest.
It is dedicated to the two Saints Jasson and Sosipatros, both Paulʼs disciples, who spread the Christianity on Corfu island.
This church was constructed in the XI century
Stones collected from abandoned ancient buildings were used in its construction.
Inside there are the graves of the two Saints.
From 1960 to 1980 many restoration works of both frescoes and icons were made.
The Church of Saint Spyridon in Corfu
The church of Saint Spyridon was built in 1590 The architecture of the church is typical of the Venetian architecture that dominates all over the Old Town of Corfu. Its bell tower is the highest spot of the town and this is the first thing that you see as the ferry approaches the island. This church is the most important religious monument of Corfu. Spyridon, or else Spyros, is very common name on the island . Inside the church, there are the remains of the saint. According to the local customs, his remains are carried around the town of Corfu in a very peaceful litany four times a year to celebrate his miracles (Palm Sunday, Good Friday, August 11th, first Sunday of November). The litanies are accompanied by the local bands and they remain a strong tradition on Corfu.
Saint Spyridon was born in 270 A.D. in Assia, a village in Cyprus. He also served as a Bishop of Trimythous, a district of Larnaca Cyprus, until he died in 348 A.D.
